About the djembe
The djembe is a goblet-shaped drum from West Africa, carved from wood and topped with a rope-tuned skin. Its name is often linked to the saying “Anke djé, anke bé”, meaning “everyone gather together in peace”, which captures the drum’s role in bringing people together. Each of our drums is handmade, so the carving and colour vary slightly from piece to piece.
Size guide
While seated on a chair, measure from the ground to about 7.6 cm (3 inches) above your knees. This gives the drum height that suits you.
