This programme empowers youth to become active citizens in their community. The youth are equipped with the skills necessary to obtain meaningful employment and/or access to further education or training.
The high youth unemployment rate in Langa is a serious cause for concern. A large proportion of the unemployed members of Langa are not actively seeking work.
The lack of opportunities available to the youth leads to discouragement and ultimately disengagement from society.
Most of the youth exiting school are not sufficiently prepared for further studies or employment.
There are high levels of alcohol and drug abuse, as well as violence against women and children.
Technical or soft skills taught in isolation result in little impact. Our programmes ensure the youth are actively engaged throughout the learning process.
Therefore, the programme uses the sewing training, computer training, and professional and personal development sessions to give the learners opportunities to become independent, lifelong learners.
Our methodology embraces a modern learning framework aimed at creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. These are fully transferable and therefore allow the youth to adapt to new working environments with ease.
We encourage the youth to be reflective learners. This means being aware of themselves and the world around them, including possible misconceptions and biases.
In addition, we actively teach the youth about metacognition, the art of being aware of one’s own problem solving processes. This equips the youth to continuously develop their thinking and reasoning, even after the programme.
Youth that did not complete matric are provided with the necessary support to attain their matric.
We offer computer training to the community to better prepare them for further education or employment.
The youth are provided with the necessary soft skills to succeed in employment or further education.
These include perseverance and grit, communication, time management, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity.
The youth are provided with tangible sewing skills allowing them to obtain employment or start their own businesses.
The training is used as an opportunity to teach the youth how to put into practice the soft skills that they learn and how to become life long learners.
